The Math The Dream The Sites Pitfalls

It would probably be a good idea to start this section with my favorite quote, so that we're all on the same mental wave-length...

"Never tell me the odds."

    - Han Solo, Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back

Figuring out the chances to win any given game is just a matter of doing a bit of multiplication. It starts to look daunting because the numbers get so big. Let's take an example game where you need to pick 6 numbers from 64 available numbers, and no number can repeat.

Therefore, each entry (or "ticket" if you prefer) has a chance of winning that is 1 out of 64 x 63 x 62 x 61 x 60 x 59, or 1 out of 53,981,544,000. If you happen to own Microsoft Excel (or another program that can import Excel files), you might want to take a peek at the Excel Worksheet

And now for another plug for my favorite game. Those odds above look pretty long, don't they? Well, favorable odds isn't really why we're doing this (see The Dream). But when the odds get you down, stick with iMustLotto. Because the the number spread in their guaranteed game gets smaller by one for every day that nobody won, the odds of winning get better each day that you play.

So in a nutshell, the greater the spread of numbers, and the more numbers you have to pick, the higher the odds. Of course in the online lotteries, the number of times per day (or per hour) that you are allowed to play also has to be factored in.
